If pressed, it's more than capable of taking on the role of Crisis Response, though this isn't it's intended role. It is ideally suited to the role of Scientific/Survey Operation, or Multirole Explorer. The Magellan is projected to be nearly a decade from its first practical tests when Voyager returns from the Delta quadrant.ДЄs the intended successor to the Intrepid-class, Magellan is a light ship built with the best technology the Federation has available. As such it will be the most heavily armed ship in its size category when produced. It is classified as a 'Deep Space Explorer' but everyone knows its intended purpose is as an Interceptor. The Magellan design is projected to be the fasted ship in the fleet. Not only are the nacelles nearly integrated with the primary hull while retaining a modular connection but ships shape is designed to fit more snugly into its intended subspace bubble than previous designs. The Nautilus is planned to be the test bed for both Positronic neural technology and the much hyped third generation 'fixed mount' variable geometry warp drive. Despite the Intrepid class's storied success with the return of the Starship Voyager from the Delta Quadrant, Starfleet engineers were unsatisfied with the performance with the first generation variable geometry warp drive and the rather mixed record of bio-neural circuitry. The Magellan class is the proposed replacement craft for the Intrepid class. Since the bulk of the crew quarters are in disuse, it can serve as additional lab space, evacuation space, cargo space, you can plug in some modern amenities like a holodeck or do some sort of wartime refit (even if it didn't get finished in time) and add more weapons, or even some sort of unique campaign tech, or specialized environments for dolphin crewmembers or whatnot (or an advanced humpback whale now that relations have been forged after that probe incident decades ago).

It's a great ship for a PC bridge crew, a set of away team troupe alternates (for those who use them) and still gives you a couple dozen dudes to bump off or catch space madness. 80ish year old ships with multiple refits certainly aren't going to be cutting edge or impressive, but they should have standard rated (or close to it) electronics, sensors, weapons and shields for the bulk of the fleet and still tops Warp 9 (iirc). Off the mess hall are 6 crew cabins (2 beds, 2 desks, bathroom), a captains private cabin, xo/guest private cabin, infirmary, and comms/lab roomД¬lick to expand.By the TNG era, the Miranda class ships were running with crews of 25-35ish (I recall the count being called out in a TNG episode when the whole crew was found dead).

Aft of the mess hall is the cargo area with access to the engineering deck, transporter and docking port. Corvettes date from the late 23rd, early 24th Century before advances in allowed for miniaturised warp cores (as seen in the Runabouts).Д«ridge at the front leading into the central area of the ship that serves as a mess hall and meeting room with the ships main replicator in the center of the room. The Corvette class of ships are multi-purpose but primarily used as couriers (getting people and mission critical items where they need to be when Runabouts/shuttles are too short range and a larger ship cannot be spared). The ship consists of a single deck saucer section with a single deck engineering section deck underneath the saucer. Lightly armed and armoured but fast for their size with medium range capability a Caspian Class Corvette is one of the smallest ships in Starfleet.
